It’s a big year here at Damascus Christian School.
We’ve been teaching kids in a Christian setting for 40 years now!
We truly thank the Lord—and you—for allowing us to do that.
It’s fun to look back at Damascus Christian School’s earliest yearbooks—you never know what you will find.
In this case, girls riding in mine cars on a school trip to Eastern Oregon.
Boys basketball players with big hair and at least one oversized mustache.
And senior graduating classes of 3. Some classes were smaller than that!
The school started with Kindergarten first, then added other grades. In all this time, the school has only had one fourth grade teacher. That is Mrs. Klingbile who still has an amazing amount of energy and love for kids after 35 years at the school! Here are some of the things she remembers and changes she’s seen:
At first the school hired supervisors to help kids complete packets of work. It was just a few families back then. After trying that, the school’s first Principal, Mr. Oakley, then hired teachers and began doing actual instruction. There was no library and many of the other classrooms we have today did not exist.
“Fourth graders are different now then they used to be. They are more astute and have more moxie! But they are still very eager to learn. I’m blessed that I’ve stayed all this time because I believe the Lord has called me here. I do think the school has tried to stick to the Truth. I love teaching and love the kids and all the a-ha moments. And the camaraderie and community with fellow teachers is special.
I agree that Damascus Christian is a special place. And you help make it that way. Thank you for your continued support and trust!
