A half marathon benefiting the Corporal Keaton Coffey Memorial Scholarship, Operation Home Front and Wounded Warriors
In 2013 we raised $9,541.83 and three $3,180.61 checks were issued to Operation Home Front, Wounded Warriors, and Corporal Keaton Coffey Memorial Scholarship. In 2014 we raised $10,145.74. Three $2,377 checks were issued to Operation Home Front, Wounded Warriors and Corporal Keaton Coffey Memorial Scholarship. We paid the Greater Santiam Boys and Girls Club $2,014.33 for acting as our 501(c) pass through organization and we reserved $1,000 to begin our 2015 campaign.
In 2014, we had runners from as far away as Texas, several from Washington and other surrounding states. Our Texas runner, who ran to honor his buddy, Lance Corporal Dale Peterson, who was KIA in 2007, carried the American Flag the entire length of the half marathon. We had four Gold Star Families and at least one Silver Star Family. Raising funds for non-profits that benefit our veterans, and honor those that sacrificed, is only one goal. The Hero Half provides a day to surround and love those families who carry an indescribable loss and let them know they are not alone, and their loved one shall not be forgotten. It also serves as a reminder to our children of the purpose of Memorial Day. As the Gold Star and Silver Star families watch the young children cross the finish line of the 1.3 to receive their medals, we provide hope for a future.
