Safety at DCS in Light of Last Week - The senseless murder of students and teachers in Texas this past week weighed heavily on all our hearts. These types of tragic events often stir emotions of fear and generate questions about the safety of our children. To help alleviate some of those emotions I wanted to share steps DCS has taken to ensure the safety of your precious children.
- DCS annually meets with local law enforcement to discuss our plans for lockdown and lockout procedures
- DCS annually reviews our plan, which is printed and located in each room
- DCS annually practices our plan
- DCS transitioned seven years ago to locking all doors, implementing a key card and video doorbell system, improving our cameras and lighting
- DCS uses national adopted programs from We Love you Guys and Run, Hide, Fight
- Leadership acknowledges a need for continued training and communication with by the addition of over 100 more students, nine new staff members and attention COVID-19 has demanded
Our staff discussed our procedures this past week and we will be conducting one of these drills this week as a part of our annual practice.
